Planting

Planting of the wildflower seeds started in March 2023 and the trees were planted the following year, in March 2024. Due to a combination of deep soil inversion and a selection of native species, we are pleased to report a very high survival rate of both flowers and trees.

Field Preparation

Deep Soil Inversion

The technique of deep soil inversion involves turning the nutrient-rich topsoil deep into the soil profile. The nutrient-poor subsoil, brought to the surface, provides preferred conditions for establishing wildflowers. It also encourages deeper tree roots, which in turn lead to better growth and resilience.

In April and May 2023, the field was power harrowed and then rolled by local farmers.

In February 2023, an Eden Project contractor ploughed the field to a depth of 70~80cm.
